Seeing Color in a Color-Blind World

By: Pastor Jarren Rogers

“Transformation is the fruit of a changed outlook. First our minds are renewed, and then we are transformed, and then everything is different, even if it stays the same.” – Mark Buchanan

I’m sure you’ve seen these videos on Facebook or YouTube.

The videos of a person born color-blind. Throughout their whole lives, they have only seen in black and white. They have never truly been able to understand the beauty of nature.

They were never able to see a world of color but then they were given special glasses. These glasses that cut out overlapping wavelengths, allowing for a clearer distinction between colors. This means that when the color-blind person wears them, they are able to see color for the first time. They can’t contain their emotions. Tears fill their eyes. They are speechless. Seeing color splash across their world seems to overwhelms them.

Because of those glasses, their life is permanently changed for the better. Because of those glasses, their life will never be the same. They are so changed that you can see it in the way that they act and react. When they put on those glasses they feel transformed.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).

Can people say the same about you? Can people tell that you have been transformed by God? Does your demeanor, the way you act, what you say, show that you are living a transformed life?

If not, what is transforming you?

Instead of being transformed by the Holy Spirit are your being transformed by the world? Is what you’re watching transforming you? Is what you’re listening to, who you’re spending time with, what you’re doing, where you’re going transforming you?

The good news is that it’s not too late. Maybe you’ve been conforming to the world. You’ve been living by the world’s standards. Maybe you’ve allowed the world and the people in it transform you.

God still wants to transform you. Will you allow His Spirit renew your mind and dwell within you?

Will you allow God to help you see color in a color-blind world?

Parents: Show your kids a video of someone trying on these glasses for the first time. Explain to them how this relates to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
