The Little Things

By: Pastor Jarren Rogers

“We ought not to be weary of doing little things for the love of GOD, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed.” – Brother Lawrence

“Well, Susan helps in the homeless shelter every Friday and I heard Fred wakes up at 5 a.m. every day to read his Bible. And what about Sam? He is always at posting Bible verses on Facebook. But, what I do can’t even compare to them. . .”

It can be so easy to compare our spiritual service to others. I’m sure we’ve all done it at one time or another. From the outside looking in it always appears that others are doing more for the Kingdom than we are. It always looks like we are being left behind or falling short when it comes to serving God.

But, be encouraged today:

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” Colossians 3:23-24).

You may not be at the top of the soup kitchen leaderboards but have faith that God is using you right where you are. No matter what work you are doing or where you are doing it, God wants to use you for His glory.

It doesn’t matter what work you are doing. Do it as if you are working for Jesus Christ Himself. If you work for Jesus, he will use you to do more than you can possibly imagine.

No matter how big or small the job is, do it out a love for your Savior and a love for others.

So, don’t grumble or groan, instead work heartily. Do the best job you can do. Work hard! You are working for the Creator of the Universe after all.

Work with a quiet, prayerful attitude. Pray to God for the strength and the patience that you need to get through the day. Pray for God to give you the grace to do His work. If your work day goes well, praise God! If something doesn’t go the way you expected, praise God!

Talk to God throughout your day conversationally. Be frank with Him and honestly tell Him your thoughts and how you feel. Ask Him for His help as situations come up in your everyday. Never let Him leave your mind.

Work, keep your head down, and pray continually.

Show love to those around you and speak words of wisdom.

Care for others and share the Gospel.

Work heartily for the Lord and serve Christ.

Parents: Explain to your children this idea of working for Christ. Tell them that God can use them at school to be a light to those around them.
