“Prayer is the never-failing resort of the Christian in any case and in every plight.” – Charles Spurgeon
Have you ever felt like your prayers are simply bouncing off the ceiling? Like maybe God took the week off? Like the sign in God’s window says OUT TO LUNCH?
Have there been seasons of your life (and this very well may be right now) where it seems as if all of your prayers are going unanswered?
Maybe you can find encouragement today in this verse from James:
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops” (James 5:16-18)
James reiterates the true and undeniable power of prayer. None of your prayers have passed by God unnoticed. He hears each and every one. In fact, James says here that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Your prayers work!
Think about Elijah. He simply uttered a prayer and it didn’t rain in Israel for 42 months! Then he prayed and the rain fell down once again.
There’s nothing special about Elijah. James says that Elijah was a human being just like us. He didn’t have superpowers. He wasn’t installed with a state-of-the-art prayer antenna that carried his prayers farther. He didn’t have a private phone in God’s office.
He was human just like you. Your prayers can be just as powerful.
Along with this, do you realize that none of your prayers go unanswered? God is faithful to answer each of our prayers. It may not be answered in the way that you expected and you may not even see the answer in this life.
But, I believe there will be a day in heaven when God will lay out His master plan before us. We will see each and every one of our prayers dotting the map of our lives and He will reveal to us how He answered each and every one in ways we couldn’t possibly have imagined.
We will see the lasting and unquestionable power of our prayers.
Parents: Explain to your Children that their prayers are powerful. Tell them about the story of Elijah and what James says about him. Share stories with your children of how God has answered prayer in your life.
