Writing Your Story

By: Pastor Jarren Rogers

“It’s time to begin righting the story of your life.” – David Jeremiah

If someone were to write a book based on your life, what would it be called? What would the cover look like? What would be the titles of the chapters?

What event marks the climax of your story? Where is the twist in the plot? What happened after?

Is your story finished?

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Your story is still being written. Don’t let past disappointment or hurt put a THE END where God puts a TO BE CONTINUED. You may have given up on your story but God never will. He still wants to use you for His glory and for the furthering of His Kingdom.

Don’t fall into contentment with your current situation. So many of us live our lives in the epilogue of our story. We live as if we’ve already lived our best life. We live like we have nothing left to offer. We live as if our story has already been finished.

But God is still writing.

Will you allow God to write the story of your life? When God is holding the pen, your story will be filled with testimonies of His faithfulness, descriptions of miracles, and praises for God’s goodness. With God as your author, you will go places you’ve never been and do things you never imagined. God knows how to guide the storyline of your book in the direction of whatever is best for you. He will guide your plot in the direction of His glory and your welfare.

Maybe you’ve been doing a pretty poor job of writing your story so far. With the pen in your hand, your story is filled with regret, shame, and confusion. Then it’s time to hand it over to a God who wants to write love, forgiveness, and reconciliation on the pages of your heart.

Just because God is the author of your story doesn’t mean there won’t be depressing or discouraging chapters. But take faith, because they are just that! Chapters. Your current chapter will end and another will begin.

But the story of your life doesn’t have to end.

Your story can continue into eternity, with God as the Author.

Who is writing your story?

Parents: Read your child a story tonight. Explain to them that just like the author wrote this story, God wants to write their story. Tell them that if they allow God to write their story, they will go places they never imagined.
