“I turn coal into diamonds, sand into pearls, and worms into butterflies. I can turn your life around too.” – God
Okay, so this isn’t an actual quote from God…it’s one of those messages you see posted on Facebook; but in reality, these are all things God does do. God is in the business of transformation, and thank goodness He is!
In speaking of our spiritual transformation, let’s think about it like diamonds. Diamonds, in their natural state, are rough and uneven. They need a skilled jeweler who can shape and polish them into the diamond they have the potential of being.
Before taking our first steps on the journey with God, we are like lumps of coal. But as we seek God in the Word and pray, we start to transform, and we begin to see the early stages of a diamond taking place.
At this stage, we could be compared to what they call a “diamond in the rough”: a diamond that is still a little rough around the edges
Our ability to be transformed and developed spiritually on our own is very limited. It takes renewal inside and out by the power of the Holy Spirit to bring full transformation.
He can take our old, selfish tendencies and turn them into fruits of the Spirit.
Acts 3:19 tells us to, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
Instead of becoming complacent and accepting ourselves as the diamonds in the rough that we have come to be on our own, let’s fully commit this season by accepting the power of the Holy Spirit who can polish and refine us into the shiny, sparkling diamonds we are meant to be!
Parents: Explain to your children how we are like diamonds that must be refined by God.
