“We do not segment our lives, giving some time to God, some to our business or schooling, while keeping parts to ourselves. The idea is to live all of our lives in the presence of God, under the authority of God, and for the honor and glory of God. That is what the Christian life is all about.” – R.C. Sproul
I was thinking about one of the most common inspirational sayings.
Always give 110%.
We’ve all probably been told it at one time or another. It means that we should give more than we think we should give. It means that even when you feel like you can’t work any harder, you go another 10%.
We usually push to give 110% in athletics, in education, at work. We give 110% in areas of our life that are important, in places that hold great value for us. We give 110% where we feel it matters most.
As I thought about this, I thought about what area of our lives is most important. If we mapped out our lives on a pie chart so we could see where we give the most time and effort, what would you see? What area of your life do you dedicate the largest majority of yourself?
Unfortunately, I feel like a majority of our pie charts would be dedicated to the finite. We would find that most of our time and energy goes to the things that only matter on this side of eternity. Most of us tend to give God whatever is left. We give him a small slice of our pie chart and we say that it’s good enough.
But God doesn’t desire just good enough. He doesn’t just want whatever is left over. He wants 110%. He wants your entire pie chart and then some. He wants complete control over your life and your schedule. He wants total obedience.
What if we worked as hard at improving our relationship with God and knowing Him more as we did with our sports, athletics, or at work? What if we really gave God 110%? What if we really worked hard to be obedient to Him and His will and then gave a little more?
There is nothing God wants more than your life totally surrendered to Him. There is no better decision that you can make than totally surrendering your life to Him. You should not be able to point to any relationship here on Earth that is more important than your relationship with God.
Give God all that you have. And then some. Offer up your day, your schedule, your good, your bad, your whole life to God in total surrender. He will use you in ways you never could have imagined. Your mind will be transformed and your heart will be renewed.
Always give God 110%.
Parents: Explain to your kids the importance of total surrender to God.
