“God is attracted to weakness. He can’t resist those who humbly and honestly admit how desperately they need him. Our weakness, in fact, makes room for his power”
– Jim Cymbala
We Americans love our coffee. There isn’t anything quite like sitting in a Bob Evan’s or a Waffle House and eating a big breakfast and sipping on coffee. One thing that you will quickly realize if you are drinking coffee in a diner is that your cup will never go empty and your drink will never go cold. The waitresses are always scurrying around filling up mugs with fresh coffee to the brim and leaving them steaming.
But I’m sure all coffee-lovers have been drinking coffee in a restaurant and your mug was empty or your coffee grew cold, and the waitress had disappeared. We desired a fresh outpouring of liquid energy, but it was nowhere to be found.
Just like our coffee, I see a lot of Christians who, whether they know it or not, are craving and longing for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. They feel like life is empty and unimpressive. They wade through life with weight on one shoulder and a chip on the other. It seems as if a vacuum has sucked all the joy out of living.
To you I say: the only thing that will lift the burden you feel, that will inject joy back into your life, that will relieve your heavy heart and give you a song of praise to sing, is a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
The good news is that the source of the fresh outpouring never disappears, in fact, he stands right beside us desiring and wanting to come and fill us with His Spirit again.
We have to come to God with our heads bowed and our hands upstretched in humility. God I don’t have what I need, I’m bearing what I was never meant to bear. I need a fresh outpouring of your Spirit, today.
God will never deny the humble request for the dispensing of His Spirit. He is ready and willing to give it to His followers.
“For I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants” (Isaiah 44:3).
If your land is thirsty and your ground is dry, if you are desiring for God to do a new work in your life, if you can’t carry on through life at the same pace you’re going now, if your back is bent and broken, if your eyes are downcast, if your mouth can’t find the words to say, if your friends have left you, if your loved ones have deserted you, if you crave something more, if you feel like something’s missing, if the chains of sin have coiled fast around you, if debt is weighing you down, if the future looks bleak, if you don’t know the next step to take, if you aren’t who you are called to be, if you feel like you can’t be the leader you need to be, if nothing makes sense, if you desire to made into the image of Christ….
Seek a fresh outpouring of His Spirit today.
