The Comeback (Read: John 11:1-37)

By: Steve Boggs

“When he heard this, Jesus said, ‘This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it’” (John 11:4).

Game one of the 1995 Conference Semi-Finals. The Pacers were down seven points with only nine seconds to go. In a surprise turn of events, Reggie Miller scores eight points in nine seconds to win the game for the Indiana Pacers in what has to be one of the greatest comebacks of all time.

My guess is that most of the fans had already given up. Pack your tents. Stick a fork in them. They’re done! Many were headed towards the exits.

What a surprise those fans must have gotten when they got to the cars and turned on the radio, only to find out that their team had won!

You know, many times we, too, give up on life’s circumstances. We, too, are like Mary and Martha thinking, if Jesus had only been here things would be different.

But what we’re reminded of today is that our God cares and graciously intervenes in our lives even when He seems to delay.

While we may not always see Him, He is with us. He sees us through life’s most difficult circumstances.

When Mary did see Jesus she fell at His feet and there she found comfort.

Don’t let the weight of the day get you down. Cast your cares and sorrows at His feet and find comfort.

Live for Christ today, knowing that He is walking with you every step of the way.
