A Command (Read: John 13:31-38)

By: Steve Boggs

“Bubba…Stay!”

Evidently, Bubba thought that Molly’s command for him to stay was just a suggestion.

Returning back to the car where Bubba was given the command to stay, Bubba was nowhere to be found. He had crossed roads, chased squirrels, and ran through the neighborhood, long gone from the place he had been told to stay.

We, too, can often times find ourselves with a little bit of Bubba in us. Wanting to run off. Pursuing our own selfish desires. Looking at God’s commands as if they were only suggestions.

But God’s Word is very clear.

Jesus says that there will be rewards for keeping His commandments and great penalties for failing to keep them.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (v.34-35).

This is not a suggestion, its a command. If we love God, we will love one another.

Follow His command today as a guide for thankful and obedient living. For Christ’s sake, look to love and benefit others, glorifying the One who died for us.
